I am asking you to please consider making a donation today. That is the only way to ensure that the advances our ECAN community is so proud to have sparked can continue in the months to come.
You and the rest of the ECAN family are making important progress possible:
- together we have added nearly $20 million to the federal budget for Esophageal Cancer Research,
- we are relentless about increasing public awareness that Heartburn can cause Cancer, and
- we are dedicated to providing valuable education and support for patients and their families.
I believe we can reach the day when nobody has to die of Esophageal Cancer. But we can’t do it without the generosity of our community!
To address the financial needs of our work, ECAN has made dramatic cutbacks in its spending. But if we are to have the fuel needed to drive our fight to end Esophageal Cancer, we must meet our fundraising goals now.
Because the need right now is so great, a grateful ECAN supporter pledges to match your donation dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $25,000.

An Invitation
In films like Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon, my father’s role always had impact. And the role you play in our ECAN community is powerful, too.
Like all the folks pictured here – YOU are ECAN.
I’m proud to say I am ECAN, too. I’ve played my role for 13 years, ever since my dad’s estate partnered with ECAN to raise awareness about the link between reflux disease and Esophageal Cancer.
But our parts are different from the ones my dad made famous in at least one important way: You and I don’t have a script. We don’t know how this story ends – but you and I can help write that script.
Right now, ECAN is at a turning point – and your role is more important than ever.
Even though we are small and lack the funds bigger groups have, you and our ECAN community have accomplished so much. Just like the The Little Engine That Could, we don’t give up.
But to be able to continue our relentless drive for progress, something has to change. That means we need a shared vision, clear direction, a mighty team, and the fuel to get our train where it’s going.
That’s why ECAN’s leadership is inviting you to join us as we map a path to the future. We need your ideas and opinions because you are ECAN.
You can get as involved as you like: serve on a committee, join a town hall, a focus group, or just fill out a survey. No matter how you decide to join us, your point of view matters – because there is no ECAN without you.
