Needed Biomarker Testing Not Happening for Patients with Advanced Gastroesophageal Cancer in Many Community Practices.
In a Project with Five Community-Based Oncology Practices throughout the US, a team led by Dr. Matthew Strickland, a Medical Oncologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, discovered that more than 75% of oncologists treating patients with advanced Gastroesophageal Cancer do not order Biomarker Testing despite practice guidelines that call for those tests. Biomarker testing can provide critical guidance to determine the best therapy for patients.
Dr. Strickland spoke to ECAN at the ASCO GI conference in San Francisco and explained that his project worked to find ways to improve those numbers.
