ECAN thanks everyone who donated or raised funds to support our medical research campaign on #GivingTuesday!
You and the rest of the ECAN family have taken us much closer to reaching our end-of-year goal of raising $50,000 needed to fund our drive to gain millions in federal medical research funding for Esophageal Cancer for the second year in a row!
Because of your advocacy and generosity, Esophageal Cancer researchers will soon have access to millions in federal research funds. Together, last year we raised the $50,000 needed to campaign for Esophageal Cancer to be included in a multi-million dollar cancer research fund controlled by Congress. And your investment paid off!
For the first time ever, lawmakers in both the US House and Senate included Esophageal Cancer (EC) in the Peer-Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP). The House is proposing to fund the program at $100 million and include just 12 other types of cancer in addition to EC. That paves the way for millions in funding for Esophageal Cancer research next year when the federal budget is passed and signed.
The funds raised this year will allow us to go back to Congress to ensure Esophageal Cancer is included in the PRCRP for a second year.
The price tag to accomplish our goal hasn’t changed. We need a total of $50,000 by the end of the year to hire our lobbyist and pay for the tools and all the outreach that lets you get your message to Congress! Because of the tremendous support you provided on #GivingTuesday, our goal is now just over $35,000.
We believe spending a total of $50,000 to gain millions for Esophageal Cancer research is a darn good return on the investment. If we all work together, we can reach our goal!
We CAN make millions of dollars in Esophageal Cancer research funding available to scientists for years to come! And we are grateful to you for making that possible!
